Kacey Musgraves Spills “Star-Crossed” Details
The full-length “Star-Crossed” album is set to debut on September 10th. Kacey Musgraves’ processing of her recent divorce inspired the story behind the album. In sitting down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Musgraves offers insights into her own thoughts about the project.
“And everyone puts out their highlight reel, nobody’s putting out their f— ups. And that’s one of the reasons why it’s daunting. But I’m excited to share ‘Star-Crossed’ just because people know me to be a songwriter that writes about what I’m going through. And I think it would have been extremely awkward if I just acted this last chapter didn’t happen for me. So I think you saw my highlight reel with ‘Golden Hour,’ and this is the other side of that. And I mean, there are beautiful parts of that too.”
In addition to the full-length album which includes 15 songs, Kacey Musgraves is working with Paramount Plus to bring fans a 50-minute film version of the album. She released this special preview below:
Musgraves Takes a Trip
On a recent podcast appearance, Kacey Musgraves opened up about a psychedelic experience that changed her life. She recounts different visions she had during the psychedelic trip that involved her younger self. The experience launched her into re-living some of her past traumas and tackling them head-on for the first time. Musgraves even disclosed she struggled with an eating disorder at one point in her teens. She made the following comments about the experience:
“It, I guess, just showed me that everyone has their way of dealing with pressure, and you wanna control more — I’ve learned a lot about control — you wanna control when you don’t feel safe,” she points out. “And that’s…I mean, I can really relate to that. Whatever is in your outside environment that’s making you feel out of control, it just makes you grab on even harder…So knowing what you’re doing, and why you’re doing that, can at least maybe help you stop.”
While it was an intense experience, Kacey says it was a worthwhile one to get to know herself better. The singer-songwriter recently celebrated her 33rd birthday and appears to be in a good place with new boyfriend Cole Schafer. This looks like the start of a new chapter for Kacey Musgraves and we couldn’t be happier to be along for the ride.
