The Dallas Cowboys tapped country superstar Kane Brown to perform the coveted halftime show concert for the team’s Thanksgiving Day matchup. NFL and country music fans voiced mixed reviews about the performance.

The “Heaven” crooner sang a handful of his hit songs with backup dance assistance from the iconic Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders in a pre-taped performance. Also, one of his popular collaborators, Lauren Alaina, joined him on stage.

Shortly after the show, the Cowboys released a behind-the-scenes look at the halftime performance. In the clip, audiences see how the major production behind the performance came together.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the league prohibits on-field entertainment. At the time of the performance, the stadium appeared nearly empty.

Some of the spectators at the Cowboys game seemed disappointed that the halftime show was pre-recorded. One Twitter user at the game shared a video of what the scene looked like in the stadium.

Brown first announced his plans to perform the halftime show during an appearance on James Corden’s The Late Late Show.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s Dallas Cowboys halftime show honoring The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign,” Brown said. “There were times growing up when my family did not have enough to eat, or a roof over our head, and today, there are so many people in need. 2020 has been a hard year, but every small act of generosity helps. I am honored to have the opportunity to bring awareness to the ways people can help during this holiday season and beyond.”

Kane Brown, Dallas Cowboys Dedicate Game to Helping Charity

Brown and the Cowboys dedicated the game to help rescue Christmas for Americans in poverty or near the line. The Cowboys historically always use the halftime show on Thanksgiving to kick off the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Charlotte Jones, executive president and chief brand officer for the Dallas Cowboys, spoke out about dedicating the concert to supporting the Salvation Army.

“For 24 years, we’ve been honored to support The Salvation Army. They need our help now more than ever,” Jones said. “In such challenging times, we’re humbled to be part of The Army’s enormous effort to help our communities through their hardships today and through those that may lie ahead.”
