Kelsea Ballerini is firing back at critics as she faces scrutiny due to a performance with Halsey at the CMT Awards Wednesday.

Women coming from two opposing musical backgrounds have joined forces. Ballerini and Halsey performed their new song “The Other Girl” at the 2020 Country Music Awards.

Kelsea Ballerini is receiving some public backlash due to her on-stage collaboration with Halsey. Yet, she seems to be taking the opportunity to make a statement in regards to women’s rights.

The two singers dressed in leather-clad attire emphasizing the “Coyote Ugly”-inspired theme. Both brought a sensual and exciting energy to the stage.

Some individuals expressed a feeling of unhappiness caused by the performance. Those individuals described it as being too sexy and not true country music.

“After reading way too many comments, I’d like to remind people that there are different kinds of country music and none are more ‘real’ than others when it comes from an honest place,” Kelsea wrote.

Tweets coming in after the show were full of mixed feelings. Many found how the singers conducted themselves as disappointing.

However, others are celebrating the female powerhouses joining together and freely expressing themselves.

Ballerini didn’t waver and stood her ground following the negative remarks.

A photo she posted on her Snapchat and Instagram accounts expressed her feelings regarding the negative reactions from others following the show.

“Women can wear whatever we want and shouldn’t be called names and criticized for it,” she says.

Ballerini ends the post by stating “if you don’t have anything nice to say, politely shut up.”
