With the start of the new year, we’re asking “What would Kenny Rogers do?”
As a country/pop crossover legend, Rogers played a major role in expanding the audience for country music. With hits like “The Gambler” and “Islands in the Stream,” Kenny clearly knew how to live life to the fullest. For this reason, we’re letting Kenny guide our New Years‘ resolutions.
Here are five of our favorite Kenny quotes to help you kickstart 2021.
The first two are all about letting go of fear and soaking in every moment. These remind us to get out there, chase greatness, and embrace youthful living.
“Do not be afraid to give up the good to go for the great.“
2020 may have left many of us feeling like we should just take what we can get. However, Kenny disagrees with that mentality. Start this new year right by releasing all that isn’t quite what you hoped it would be. In doing so, you’ll make space for great things to flow into your life.
“Youth is a frame of mind. If you get out there and enjoy it, you can have it at any time in your life.“
The past year felt like it lasted at least 16 years. For this reason, many of us may be feeling a little aged. However, according to Kenny, age is nothing by a mindset. Set the intention for 2021 to maintain a youthful frame of mind. Let your inner child play. Find time to paint or dance or laugh or sing, or to do whatever brings you joy. In 2021, despite what age we may actually be, we’re all celebrating sweet 16 birthdays!
Kenny Teaches Us How To Move Forward After 2020
The next few quotes are all about accepting what our experiences have taught us and moving forward. After everything we experienced in 2020, this seems like the perfect advice for the new year.
“I feel like I learn something from everything I do.”
January is the time to take everything we learned from the past 365 days and apply it to the new year. 2020 taught us a lot about the unpredictability of life, and about releasing the desire to control things that are out of our control. Additionally, we learned about love, and about finding creative ways to connect with our loved ones. Let’s take the lessons 2020 gave us and use them to make the best of 2021.
“I just hope I can spread some of the happiness that’s been coming my way.“
We all have ups and we all have downs. What’s important is how we live our lives through all of it. Make it a point, this year, to spread some of the blessings you receive to the people around you. If it works for Kenny, we’re adding it to our New Years’ resolutions.
“You gotta know when to hold ’em, know when to fold ’em, know when to walk away, know when to run.“
Although this advice is timeless, these words really resonated throughout 2020. We knew we needed to find ways to hold on to the ones we loved – even if we couldn’t see them in person. We knew when to surrender and let go of any plans we had for the year. Additionally, if the pandemic vaccine turns everyone into zombies, we’ll know when to run away.
Thanks For The Lessons, Kenny Rogers
Sadly, Kenny left us last year. But not before gracing us with decades of hit songs and, of course, words of wisdom. And what better way to honor his legacy than to use his guidance to kickstart the New Year? We’re starting 2021 by thanking this past year (and Kenny Rogers) for the lessons.
