Miranda Lambert joins the Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb for a country/disco crossover song we never knew we needed.

Who knew that country and disco were a match made in heaven? Apparently, Lambert and Gibb did. The two released a new version of the Bee Gees’ song “Jive Talkin,” along with Jay Buchanan of the Rival Sons.

Undoubtedly, Lambert’s immediately identifiable vocals offer a unique twist to the 1975 single. The original version of the song was featured in the 1977 film, Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta. Does this mean we can hope for a 70s-themed country remake of the film using this new version of the song?

Miranda Lambert Share’s Gibb’s Love For Country Music

Certainly, Gibbs is most known for his work with the Bee Gees. However, Gibb is also a country fan. “Jive Talkin'” is one of 12 songs featured on Greenfields: The Gibb Brothers Songbook, Vol. 1.

Gibb’s album consists of collaborations with country, Americana, and bluegrass stars. Stars include Alison Krauss, Brandi Carlile, Dolly Parton, Keith Urban, Little Big Town, Jason Isbell, and Lambert. Who knew the grammy-winning discotheque icon was such a big country fan?

Gibbs says that from the day he stepped into a Nashville recording studio, he was a country fan.

“From the first day we stepped into RCA Studios in Nashville (the same place Elvis, Willie, Waylon, Roy, the Everly Brothers created country music magic), the album took on a life of its own,” says Gibb.

As the last surviving Gibb brother, Gibb says that he knows his brothers would have loved this album. Additionally, Gibbs thanks Miranda Lambert and the other performers for their talents.

“[The guest performers] were all incredibly generous with their time and talent. They inspired me more than words can express,” says Gibb. “I feel deep down that Maurice and Robin would have loved this album for different reasons. I wish we could have all been together to do it … but I think we were.”

We’re excited to get groovy with some country music – something we never thought we’d get to say.
