The pair have recorded a new collaboration together in the form of “Dear Rodeo.” It pays homage to their pasts before becoming country music superstars, with Johnson riding bulls and McEntire a barrel-racer once upon a time.
McEntire and Johnson come together for an exciting riff on the typical country song. They talk about missing the rodeo, and how the past won’t change. Reba sings about missing it in its entirety with Cody.
“It was a thrill to get to sing ‘Dear Rodeo’ with Cody because we’re both from the rodeo world,” said McEntire. “I grew up in a rodeo family, I’m a third-generation rodeo brat. So the song means a lot to me because I did leave rodeo to be in the country music business. I sure miss it.” Cody Johnson also chimed in with his thoughts.
“The story behind ‘Dear Rodeo’ is more a story about life and less about rodeo. I feel like everybody has their own ‘Dear Rodeo’ story and when I found out that Reba was impacted by this song enough to want to do a duet, it was probably one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in my career.”
Reba McEntire fans will be able to hear the songstress immediately, as the song is out right now. Give it a listen while you have some time.
