This weekend, dozens of country music’s biggest sensations are getting together for the Academy of Country Music Awards. The show is taking place on Sunday, April 18, in Nashville, Tennessee.

The event will be broadcast from the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Bluebird Cafe.

The show currently has a massive list of performers set to take the stage. From Gabby Barrett to Kelsea Ballerini to Kenny Chesney to Jimmie Allen to Dierks Bentley to Maren Morris to Ashley McBride, amongst many others.

Phillip Sweet Tests Positive for COVID-19

The country music group, Little Big Town, is also set to perform at the awards show. However, Phillip Sweet, a fourth of the vocal talent, has recently tested positive for COVID-19 and will not be making an appearance.

However, the rest of the group is still saying the show must go on. Jimi Westbrook, Karen Fairchild, and Kimberly Schlapman all spoke to Kelly Ford from Audacy. The group talked about the ACM awards and how their fellow bandmate is doing since contracting the virus.

“Well, Philly’s not feeling good,” Westbrook said.

Fairchild then added that “We might as well break the news, he’s got the COVID.” Westbrook then eased everyone’s mind by saying, “He seems to be holding off the really bad stuff, just a little not feeling great.”

The group also said that Sweet thinks he will be “over the hump” sometime today or the next few days. Regardless, ACM week is completely out of the picture for him to ensure his safety and everyone around him’s safety.

Little Big Town has had the same four members since the group was founded in 1998.

So will the group still be performing at the annual awards show?

The group will not be bringing in a substitute fourth member for the performance. Instead, they’ll be figuring out how to sing a four-person-harmony arrangement as a trio.

The four-person group is not just attending the ACM awards to perform. Instead, the group is up for the prestigious group of the year award at the 56th annual ceremony. They will be competing for that title alongside some steep competition. The other groups are Old Dominion, Lady A, The Cadillac Three, and The Highwomen.

Little Big Town has most recently released their 13-song album “Nightfall” in 2020.

Unfortunately, Phillip Sweet isn’t the only one who will be missing out on the ACMs this year. Luke Bryan, who was also set to perform at the show, will no longer be present after testing positive a couple of days ago. There may be more performers or guests in the future that will contract the virus before the show on Sunday.
