Loretta Lynn Pens Heart-Wrenching Message on 37th Anniversary of Son Jack’s Passing

Loretta Lynn commemorated her late son in a devastatingly heartwrenching post.

On July 22, the country icon shared a black and white photo of her son, Jack, playing the guitar.

“My Jack. Today in 1984 my life changed forever. You are never the same after you bury one of your children -never. I’ve thought of him and missed him every day for 37 years,” she began.

Loretta Lynn added that he was the “spitting image of his daddy” with blue eyes and blonde hair. She added that he was just what she asked for.

“He was quiet and tender. I adored him with all my heart,” she reminisced. “He and Betty Sue [her daughter] got into everything when they were little and I was a new momma. They kept me on my toes and I’d do it all again if I could. They’re together now. Jack, I love you, honey. You still bring a smile to me every time I think of you. #foreveryoung #mommasboy”

Jack Benny Lynn passed away in 1984. Jack was by himself riding his horse on the family’s estate in Waverly, Tennesee when the unthinkable happened. He attempted to cross a river but failed and he fell. His cause of death was drowning. He was 34 at the time of his death. Loretta Lynn reportedly cried non-stop at his funeral.

Loretta Lynn’s Family

Country music legend Loretta Lynn was born in 1932 to coal miner Melvin “Ted” Webb and Clara “Clary” Marie. She was the second of eight children. The family grew up in rural Kentucky. When she was just fifteen she tied the knot.

Lynn was married to Oliver Vanetta “Doolittle” Lynn for 50 years. Despite his womanizing ways (which she sings about) and his alcoholism, they remained a couple until his death. He passed away in 1996 due to diabetes-related health problems.

The couple’s eldest daughter Betty Sue, passed away in 2013. She was 64 and her cause of death was emphysema complications.

Loretta Lynn and Dolittle welcomed their twin daughters Patsy and Peggy. The duo carried on their mother’s legacy and formed The Lynns. They never marketed or publicized their famous mother. They released the successful single, “Woman to Woman.” They were later nominated for Vocal Duo of the Year in 1989 and 1999 at the CMA Awards.

Their daughter Clara “Cissie” Marie toured in a band with her husband until her father got ill. Meanwhile, her brother Ernest “Ernie” Ray has often performed in concert with their mother.
