Country music icon Loretta Lynn is congratulating last night’s ACM award winners. And, much to her fans’ delight, she shared a video clip from her 1976 Entertainer of the Year award win.

Back in 1976, Lynn won the coveted prize of ACM Entertainer of the Year award. However, during the video, she doesn’t seem to know that she was even nominated. During the hilarious clip, a young Lynn stumbles through her words during her acceptance speech before finally saying, “On my first award, I didn’t know what I was nominated for. I really didn’t know. So, that’s why I said, ‘I wish I’d get my things together,’ because I didn’t know I was supposed to…I didn’t know I was nominated. But I’d like to say, I sure am proud. And I’d like to thank all of you.”

Along with the video, Lynn wrote, “I had a lot of great nights on the stage at @ACMawards being nominated, winning, singing, and hosting! It’s such a special thing. Congrats to all the nominees and winners. I love and cheer for all of you.”

Loretta Won Four ACM Awards In 1976

We understand why Loretta Lynn didn’t even know that she was nominated for the Entertainer of the Year Award. She was nominated for five awards that year and won four. With all those wins, we’ve had a hard time keeping track too.

Lynn took home awards for Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Vocalist, and Best Vocal Duet. The year before the awards, Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty released their fifth collaborative studio album, Feelings. The album peaked in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot Country LP’s chart. And the title track from the album spent 16 weeks on the chart and peaked in the number one spot.

Loretta Lynn and Academy Award Winning Actress Sissy Spacek Are Close Friends

That same year Loretta Lynn released her first autobiography, Coal Miner’s Daughter. The book quickly became a bestseller. This was the first time Lynn publicly revealed some of the ups and downs of her personal and professional life, specifically her relationship with her husband Doo. Just a few years later, the Academy Award-winning movie starring Sissy Spacek was filmed and based on Lynn’s book. The movie is great. However, an even better perk to come from the movie was Loretta Lynn’s friendship with actress Sissy Space. During an interview in 1980, Spacek described meeting Lynn like meeting a “long-lost friend.”

“I just loved her,” said Spacek. “She’s so honest, and she’s such a woman. She and I are the same size – five feet two-and-one-half inches. And there is something so familiar about her. When I met her, it was like meeting a long-lost friend.”
