Loretta Lynn Shares a Heartfelt Tribute to One of Her Closest Friends

by Clayton Edwards

No person exists in a vacuum. For every success that we see, there are countless people behind the scenes helping out. This is true for everyone from superstars to everyday folks. Even if you succeed by the sweat of your brow, someone was there to inspire you or lend a helping hand that made things possible. Loretta Lynn is no exception to this.

Today, Loretta Lynn is one of the most influential and iconic singers and songwriters in country music. Over her long career, she’s notched several hits, inspired countless people, and toured the world. Yesterday, the Coal Miner’s Daughter took to Instagram to share a photo of her with the person who made her entire career possible.

Loretta Lynn Introduces the World to Her Friend Gloria

No, that’s not a record producer, tour manager, or one of Loretta Lynn’s songwriting partners. It’s her friend Gloria. In the post’s caption, Lynn said, “This picture represents 55 years of love and friendship. I was so happy to see Gloria this weekend.” Then, the country icon elaborated on their relationship.

Gloria joined Loretta Lynn’s team in 1966 as a nanny for her children. Loretta put Gloria’s service into perspective by saying, “The twins were 6 months old, Cissie 11, and Ernest Ray 12.” Soon, Lynn said, Gloria was more than an employee. She was part of the family. Today, she’s still part of the family and that’s obvious just from the photo of them together.

Then, Loretta Lynn explained how Gloria helped her succeed. “I could have never been on the road, had a career if it weren’t for her. Not just because my kids were safe and cared for but because I knew they were loved. She loved ‘em like I did and I adore her for always loving them so well. It took two of us and I couldn’t have done it without her.”

In closing, Loretta Lynn said, “I treasure this Arkansas girl and the world will never fully understand all she did for me and all she means to me!”

Looking Back at Loretta’s Timeline

According to Loretta Lynn, Gloria joined her family in 1966.

The country icon landed her first chart-topping hit on February 11th, 1967. That was likely less than a year after Gloria came aboard to help her out. Of course, Gloria probably didn’t have anything to do with the writing or production of “Don’t Come Home a-Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ on Your Mind).” However, she probably watched the kids while Loretta went to the studio to cut the song.

Even if that scenario didn’t take place, Gloria is still one of the unsung heroes of country music. We’d like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Arkansas native for helping Loretta become the icon she is today.
