Loretta Lynn Posts Touching Message Ahead of Receiving ACM Honors Poet Award: ‘Writing Makes You Feel Better’

Country music star Loretta Lynn has had one of the longest and most successful careers in the industry. And come this August, she will be receiving Poet’s Award from the Academy of Country Music.

The ACM Honors event will be held on August 25, at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee. That’s where Lynn, the “You Ain’t Woman Enough” singer, will be receiving the ACM’s Poet’s Award. The award honors songwriters “for outstanding and longstanding musical and/or lyrical contributions throughout their career. Special Consideration is given to a song or songs’ impact on the culture of country music.”

As you can tell by the very definition of the award, Loretta Lynn fits that mold to a “T.” In August, she will add her newest award to a trophy case that already includes multiple ACM awards. One is from 1975 for Entertainer of the Year. She also received an ACM Pioneer Award in 1994 and a Crystal Milestone Award in 2014.

Lynn took to social media to give her thanks for receiving the award. In addition, she gives fans some insight into why exactly she loves writing so much.

“This is such an honor for me,” Lynn announced on Twitter. “Anytime others acknowledge your work it means so much and especially to receive the @ACMawards Poet Award because writing music has been a greater love to me than singing it.”

“I’ve always written about the truth, as raw as it may be at times, and real-life, even when it’s hard. No sense in it going to waste,” Loretta Lynn continued. “Writing makes you feel better and puts it to use for others. Even my new song, ‘Still Woman Enough’ is real life and truth because you can’t let age count you out. Thank you for this award.”

Country Fans Congratulate Lynn

Country music fans came out in spades to congratulate the 89-year-old star. Some simply offered up a congratulatory message while others complimented her incredible writing.

“Congratulations, Loretta! Well deserved,” one fan commented.

“The truth in your songs is awesome,” another replied. “Songs/poems about real current times. You should also be awarded as a historian. Thanks for all the great times with your tunes. You have educated a lot of people @LorettaLynn.”

“Congratulations on being awarded the #ACMAwards Poet Award,” a fellow Twitter user said. “You are a true inspiration and a beloved artist! Bravo, @LorettaLynn.”

Loretta Lynn is One of Several Artists Receiving an Award at the Academy of Country Music Honors Event

While Loretta Lynn will be receiving the ACM Poets Award, there will be plenty of other awards handed out on August 25.

Other artists in the industry like Gretchen Peters are set to be recognized as well. Peters wrote hits for the likes of Marina McBride, George Strait, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood, and more.

Dan + Shay, Rascal Flatts, Luke Combs, Lady A, and Toby Keith are some of the other big-time stars that will be receiving different ACM honors as well.
