Luke Bryan Misses ‘American Idol’ After Positive Test, See His Message to Contestants

The first live episode of American Idol aired last night. However, one host was missing. Luke Bryan had to sit out for at least one week due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Everyone was pretty unhappy about Bryan being sidelined. But, they added Idol veteran Paula Abdul to the mix. So, it evened out a little bit. They hope to have the country star back on the show next week if he is cleared by healthcare professionals.

Luke Bryan couldn’t be there in person. He was, however, there in spirit. Or rather, text. According to his regular co-hosts, Lionel Richie and Katy Perry, he texted them throughout the taping of the episode. Bryan wanted to make sure they knew what he thought about what was happening on the show.

The American Idol contestants didn’t get to hear any of Luke Bryan’s commentary, though. On the other hand, he was able to send them all a message. He fired off a tweet before the show started and addressed the contestants as well as the fans.

In the tweet, Luke Bryan wished the Top 16 American Idol contestants good luck. They needed it, too. They all knew that some of them were going home. Only 12 contestants could move on to the next round of the competition. However, after frontrunner Wyatt Pike left the show, they could all breathe a little easier. Only three of the remaining contestants were on the chopping block.

Luke Bryan also reminded his fans to to tune in to the show to watch it all unfold.

How Is Luke Bryan Doing?

Hearing that anyone has come down with COVID can be unnerving. In the country music community, we lost several stars to the virus last year including legends Charley Pride and John Prine.

Fortunately for the country music world, Luke Bryan is one of the lucky ones. He is only experiencing mild symptoms. In fact, he is hoping to be back on American Idol next week. He told his fellow judges that he’s feeling good. So, it’s just a matter of waiting for the virus to run its course. Once Bryan gets a negative test, he’ll be back on the dais beside his fellow judges.

Until Like Bryan is cleared to return as a judge, his seat is in good hands. Paula Abdul was a judge on the show for eight years. Furthermore, she is more than happy to be back on American Idol.
