Luke Combs just hit another milestone. The country singer grabs his 10th consecutive No. 1 hit on the Billboard country music charts. Combs landed the achievement with his single “Better Together,” which has been a rousing success.

So far, Combs made history by being the only country singer to have 10 consecutive hits on the Airplay chart. Since his debut, every single Combs produced has landed at the top position on the chart. Combs also made this achievement across two full-length studio albums.

The CMA Male Vocalist of Year landed five No. 1 hits back in 2017 from his debut album. He then followed that success up with five hits from his second album “What You See Is What You Get,” which released in 2019.

Luke Combs Discusses the Song’s Origins

For “Better Together,” Combs partnered with one of his best friends. While the song is simpler than some of Combs’ catalog, it shows over his softer side and features powerful vocal work.

“‘Better Together’ is a song I wrote with one of my best friends, Joe Fox, and Phil Barton, an incredible writer, great guy. We’d actually written that song about a year before we tracked it. But we knew we had something cool in the version we wrote back then. But we also knew that it wasn’t quite there, you know the dots weren’t quite connected,” Combs explained.

Combs developed the song while hanging out with his friend Joe while at the studio. Combs’ friend shared his idea on how to make the tune work.

“The night before, literally the night before we went into the studio, Joe and I were hanging out and that song came up,” Combs said. “And he had an idea of how to work on it. So we chased that down, and we called Phil and Phil came over and we worked on that song. We finished it that night. I sent it to Ash (Bowers) who I co-produce my stuff with. I said, “Man- this might be fresh-baked cookies but I just love this song,” and he said, “Man- I really love it too, we should cut it.” So we did. And not only did we cut it but it’s the title track to the record. And really right now, I look forward to playing that song live as much as any of them. So it’s a special one for sure.”
