Matthew McConaughey Drops Preview of ‘We’re Texas’ Concert Featuring George Strait and Willie Nelson

Everybody wants to be a Texan now as Matthew McConaughey drops his latest promo video for the “We’re Texas” benefit concert.

Earlier this month actor Matthew McConaughey announced that he’s hosting a virtual benefit concert featuring country music stars including George Strait, Willie Nelson, Kacey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, and more. Proceeds from the concert will be donated to the Just Keep Livin’ Texas Relief Fund. The fund supports Texas residents affected by this year’s devastating winter storms.

Now, McConaughey is sharing even more details about who all will be in attendance during the concert. His latest teaser video highlights countless country music stars, actors, television hosts, YouTube stars, professional athletes, and other celebrities announcing themselves as supporters of the concert.

Along with the video, he wrote, “I’m Matthew McConaughey hailing from Austin, Texas and together #WereTexas. Join me and so many talented folks from Texas on Sunday, 3/21 at 7pm CT. Head to my http://youtube.com/matthewmcconaughey… Let’s get Texas and Texans back on their feet again – giddy up to give back.”

Matthew McConaughey Said Texans Are ‘Expected to Behave a Certain Way’

It didn’t take long for Matthew McConaughey to find a way to help Texas residents. Having been born and raised in Texas, McConaughey said that he is simply responding to his home-state upbringing. During an interview, McConaughey opened up about what it’s been like to plan the virtual benefit concert.

“We do have pride a-plenty,” said McConaughey. “When you’re raised as a Texan, you’re expected to behave in a certain way because you’re from Texas. But, if you get out of line people will say, ‘Ah ah, that’s not Texas of you,’” said McConaughey. “So, some of us are born here. Some of us move here as quick as we can. And some of us, like my wife Camilla, marry in – she’s a Texan now. Some of us just come for the barbecue.”

Regardless of the reason why people flock to Texas, once they move there, they take pride in the state. So, it didn’t take long for Matthew McConaughey to find people to support the “We’re Texas” benefit concert. As soon as he and his wife came up with the idea for the benefit concert, McConaughey started calling companies for sponsorships. Immediately, companies responded enthusiastically.

“This was beautiful. And this is the beautiful thing about Texans as well. It didn’t take long at all to convince people,” said McConaughey. “…Then I get on the phone. And in 30 seconds every performer, every Texas business, every sports star is like, ‘Yes. Tell me what I need to do and where. I’m in.’ That was the easy part…We’re happy with where we’re at with a lot of help from a lot of people from Texas and beyond.”

Attendees can join Matthew McConaughey and tune into the concert virtually on March 21 at 7 pm CT.
