We all need to give pop singer Sia a big thank you for convincing Miranda Lambert to record Hell of a Holiday.

When Miranda Lambert’s Pistol Annies bandmates Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley asked Lambert to work on a Christmas album, she gave a hard “no” as an answer. The country songstress was tired of the same old holiday tunes constantly being redone. And she wanted no part of recording another Silent Night rendition.

But Monroe and Presley weren’t ready to give up on their dream of singing festive country music, so they didn’t relent. For months, the duo continued to hound their lead singer. And they never managed to make Lambert bend.

But, Sia did.

As Miranda Lambert told PEOPLE, hearing Sia’s album titled Everyday is Christmas gave her a change of heart.

“It was like, ‘Oh, fresh and originals,'” Lambert admitted. “That got me loving Christmas music again because it was fresh.”

With that newfound love of holiday tunes, the singing trio headed to the Smoky Mountains in May of 2020. The girls took the trip to write the songs that would eventually come to fruition on Pistol Annies’ Hell of a Holiday.

The album, which is in stores now, holds 13 new, witty songs. Lambert, Monroe, and Presley all found writing inspiration from their southern roots and crafted happy pieces filled with classic Pistol Annie storytelling.

The girls also went with some old favorites, despite Lambert’s distaste of remakes. Tried and true songs such as Sleigh Ride, Auld Lang Syne, and If We Make It Through December are included on the record. However, the girls worked hard to add some on-brand flair to their versions. And in the end, all three singers thought the songs turned out perfectly.

“Miranda just started doing that bluesy thing,” Presley recalls. “That hit us hard. We didn’t know what was wrong until we found the right way. And we were like, ‘Oh, this sounds like Annie’s now.'”

Miranda Lambert Will Host a ‘Pistol Annies Hell of a Holiday Special‘ on Facebook

To celebrate finally recording a Christmas album, Miranda Lambert and her bandmates are streaming a Pistol Annies Hell of a Holiday Special with interviews and live performances on their Facebook Page. The event will raise funds for Music Health Alliance.

“We took into account how serious it is to come into everyone’s home and everyone’s life and everyone’s memories every year,” Monroe told PEOPLE. “We respected that we would hopefully make memories with our fans and their families every year because Christmas music is so powerful when it hits you.”

To catch the live streaming holiday event, tune into the Pistol Annie Facebook page tonight (December 15th) at 8 p.m. ET
