Morgan Wallen, a Tennessee native, and country music sensation sat down with Michael Strahan for an interview that will air on “Good Morning America” tomorrow morning.

The appearance comes in the wake of a controversy wherein the “Whiskey Glasses” singer was captured on video drunkenly using a racial slur. His budding superstardom has wilted in the weeks and months following the news. And now, his decision to air the situation out with Michael Strahan is being criticized by some as a ploy to rehabilitate his image for its own sake.

Morgan Wallen addressed that very subject in the sneak-peak preview of the interview that “Good Morning America” posted on Twitter.

“There’s going to be a lot of people who are going to watch this and say, ‘He’s only sitting down because he wants to clean up his image. It’s all a performance.’ So what do you say to that?” Strahan asks Wallen in the video.

“I understand that. I’m not ever going to make everyone happy. I can only come tell my truth, and that’s all I know to do,” Wallen answered.

It’s hard to understate just how devastating the fallout has been to Morgan Wallen’s career. His record label suspended his contract, he lost his talent agency, and in some cases, his music was removed from radio stations outright.

The Country Star Has Been Apologetic Following the Controversy

Wallen has since apologized for his actions and has promised to spend time working on himself. The country star just turned 28 recently and rocketed to success at a young age. In a statement he released back in April, he didn’t use his age as an excuse, but rather as a metric measuring the progress he’s made as a man.

“I’ve made some mistakes, I’m figuring those out, and I apologized because I was truly sorry & have been making my amends,” Wallen said in the statement.

“I hope there’s a big difference between the 27-year-old me now and the 32-year-old me someday… I will always strive to be better,” he added.

No one but Morgan can speak to his intentions or what he hopes to accomplish by sitting down with Michael Strahan. Fans and critics alike will have to judge for themselves if they think the young man is genuine. But regardless of any individual conclusion, Wallen is a breakthrough talent. He will surely continue making music whether or not this stain remains with him.

Morgan Wallen Has Received High Praise from Country Music Legends

There’s a reason Morgan Wallen has been so successful over the past few years. He’s talented.

Some first saw the singer-songwriter when he competed on Season 6 of “The Voice” in 2014. Since then, he has established a career and put out two full albums.

His work has captured the attention, among others, of Brooks and Dunn legend Ronnie Dunn. According to Dunn, he is “one of the most talented singer/songwriters in a long time.” High praise coming from someone so respected.
