Morgan Wallen Speaks Out About ‘Difficulties’ of Co-Parenting Son with His Ex

Being a new parent is challenging for anyone. While Morgan Wallen seemingly has no issues topping country music charts with smash hits, raising his son with his ex-fiancé has presented some “difficulties” for the 27-year-old singer.

In early July, Morgan Wallen’s ex-fiance Katie “KT” Smith, gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Indigo Wilder. Even though the two had broken up after many years of dating, they would still see each other after the split. This obviously brings us to the baby, who they call Indie.

While Wallen and Smith faced issues with how to raise Indie, Wallen says he is happy the baby is healthy. “The most important thing is just he’s in our life now. He’s incredible.”

Morgan Wallen says that now, looking at the situation, he is “thankful” to share the son with Smith, being someone he cares about.

“We’re doing our best to figure it out, just trying to do the best we can with the situation. I mean, a lot of people obviously have been in this situation before — having a kid with someone you’re not with — but knowing that doesn’t make it any easier,” he tells People.

Family Matters

This isn’t how Morgan Wallen pictured his life to play out, he’s mentioned however. The 27-year-old looks up to his parents as a symbol for how a family should act. His current predicament has left him being a co-parent and single dad.

“Definitely not how I imagined parenthood. I wanted to have a family like my parents. My parents are still together, you know. They raised [me and my sisters] together. That was my idea for what my life would look like. Obviously, that’s not the way it turned out. And I struggled with that a little bit when I first found out.”

Morgan Wallen’s family has helped him with the huge adjustment, however. His parents Tommy and Lesi, often travel from Knoxville to aid in taking care of their grandson.

“I’m still learning,” Wallen acknowledges. “I would definitely not consider myself an expert by any means.”

The artist hopes to reflect his parenting skills after Tommy and Lesi.

“I just hope to give him as sound advice as my parents gave me and just show him love and let him know that I’m here for him and that I’m his friend. I’m here to help, and I’m here to guide. I’m just gonna try to do the best I can.”

Morgan Wallen on Keeping His Son Overnight

In addition, adorable Indie is now six months old, which means Morgan Wallen can have his son sleep at his house for the night. The country artist says it has helped him grow up.

“We’re just now starting that. We just got everything figured out. But KT’s worked with me throughout the whole time, so I’ve been able to see him a lot since he was born. So if you walk in my house now, you think a baby lives here.”

Back when his son was born, Wallen posted a moving message to his son.

“I’ll be the Dad you deserve as well as the co-parent your mother deserves. Since you were born, I know that every decision I make will be with you in mind. I promise I’ll always protect you and do my best to be an example of a good, godly man just like my daddy was for me.”
