One of Tim McGraw’s biggest hit songs was released 21 years ago today. It was on July 17, 2000, that he released his chart-topping hit, “My Next Thirty Years.”

According to This Day In Country Music, the song made it all the way to the top spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Also, was released from Tim McGraw’s album, “A Place in the Sun.” And was the fifth track released off that album.

“My Next Thirty Years” is a song about reflection and looking ahead. It makes you look back on the past. Also, it makes you think about all the good things the future could have in store for you. In that way, this country music hit is about hope and possibility.

The song’s narrator is celebrating his 30th birthday. As most milestone birthdays tend to do for most of us, they lead us to look back on our lives. Here’s how Tim McGraw opens this song: “I think I’ll take a moment, celebrate my age / The ending of an era, and the turning of a page / Now it’s time to focus in on where I go from here / Lord, have mercy on my next 30 years.”

‘My Next Thirty Years’ Focuses On the Important Things In Life

In terms of looking ahead in his life, the song’s narrator also has big plans. These include: “My next 30 years I’m gonna settle all the scores / Cry a little less, laugh a little more / Find a world of happiness without the hate and fear / Figure out just what I’m doing here, in my next 30 years,” Tim McGraw also sings.

The narrator also wants to some so important to so many of us during the next 30 years of his life. That is to spend time more time with his wife and with his family.

Another Hit Song from Tim McGraw’s ‘A Place in the Sun’ Album Was ‘Something Like That’

“My Next Thirty Years” wasn’t the only hit song off of Tim McGraw’s “A Place in the Sun” album. Another one of the popular country music star’s hits off this album was the track “Something Like That.”

This song was released in June 1999. It is a song about remembering the first person you ever really loved. The first love in this song was very memorable. However, like so many other first loves, it didn’t last. But, it is something that many people never forget.

Just like in “My Next Thirty Years” – and his other songs – Tim McGraw gives a great performance in “Something Like That.”
