Newcomer Parker McCollum is feeling pretty wholehearted about climbing to the top of the charts for the first time.

Parker McCollum is Sitting Pretty Atop the Country Charts

McCollum earns his first No. 1 on both the Billboard and Mediabase country airplay charts this week with his debut single, “Pretty Heart.”

“To have this song really and truly succeed on big-time radio is a dream come true,” McCollum said in a statement. “And for it to happen during such an insanely crazy year makes it just that much more special.”

The Touching Lyrics

“And what does that say about me?/ I could do you like I did?/ That I could break an angel’s wings…..”

The Texas native co-wrote “Pretty Heart” with Randy Montana. It focuses on the feelings of regret following a break-up. The lyrics are impressively meaningful.

“That I stood there like a fencepost/ As you drove off in your car/ What does that say about me?/ Now that I broke/ Your pretty heart.”

The Success of Parker’s First EP is Gold

Parker McCollum couldn’t be more enthusiastic as he informed his Twitter followers of the success of “Pretty Heart” reaching No. 1 on the charts, as he writes:

“We did it y’all! Just a kid from Conroe, TX who dreamed about playing country music now has the #1 song in the country this week! No beer songs or dirt roads or trucks or nothin. Just honest songwriting. We did it our way! Best fans in the world made it happen! THANK YOU!”

Like most other artists, McCollum had to cancel his tour dates due to COVID-19, but his first single with MCA Nashville kept gaining momentum, until reaching gold status in October. His first debut track is currently averaging five million streams weekly.

“Pretty Heart” is a song from his new album Hollywood Gold. The record earns Parker the highest-selling debut EP of 2020, debuting at No. 10 on the Billboard Country Chart.

“To say I’m excited for my fans to listen to this new project, Hollywood Gold, is an understatement,” McCollum said leading up to release. “I’m always striving to become a better songwriter and I feel like my songwriting on this EP is some of my best to date.”
