Ten years ago today, Rascal Flatts released their debut hit single, “Why Wait,” with their new record label. The wildly popular country music trio left Lyric Street Records, where they started their career, in April of 2020. Later in the summer, they signed with Big Machine Records, headlined by Taylor Swift.
“I’m just thrilled that Taylor let us on the label,” mentioned Jay DeMarcus at the signing.
After signing with Big Machine, Rascal Flatts wasted no time in getting to work. Their long relationship with Big Machine would ultimately result in a decade long extension of their career as relevant country music artists.
After its release, “Why Wait” spent a couple of weeks rising the ranks of the country music charts before reaching number one. Once it got there, the smash hit single spent two weeks at the top spot. Rascal Flatts really raked it in through the end of 2010, going into their new era with momentum.
20 Years of Rascal Flatts
The extremely successful single also appears on their brand new compilation album, 20 Years of Rascal Flatts. The hit song shows up as the eleventh track on the new set. The release of the collection originally intended to coincide with the Rascal Flatts farewell tour. While the pandemic clearly canceled those plans, the album still does a fantastic job of capturing all of the great moments, memories, and music that have happened over the span of their two-decade career.
“We wanted to put it all together,” Gary Levox said to CMT Top 20 Countdown. “It’s two decades of some of our biggest hits, and it kind of takes them down the path of two decades of Rascal Flatts music. And that’s really what it was, just a big thank you. You can never thank them enough. We love our fans so much and we just we are so blessed.”
