Reba McEntire released a powerful new video for “You Never Gave Up On Me” that is dedicated to her late mother. Reba’s mother, Jacqueline McEntire, 93, passed away on March 14, 2020.

“You Never Gave Up on Me” is the final track on Reba’s 2019 album, Stronger Than the Truth. Penned by Billy Aerts and Burton Collins, the song features the touching lyrics: “You never gave up on me / No, you never gave up on me / I’m here where I was always meant to be / I never gave up ’cause you never gave up on me / You never gave up on me / Thank you, Mama.

Reba released the heartwarming video on the one-year anniversary of Jacqueline’s passing. Reba noted to Taste of Country in 2019 that her mom “loved” the song.

“Oh, she cried,” said Reba. “She loved it.”

Reba’s Touching New Video

The powerful new video opens with a clip of Reba accepting the Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at the CMA Awards in 1984.

“The first time me and Mama came to Nashville, she told me, she said, ‘Reba, I couldn’t do this, so I’m living my life and my dreams through you,'” said Reba. “This is for me and Mama, and we thank you.”

As Reba starts singing the piano ballad, the black-and-white video begins showcasing more than 20 photos of Reba with her mother. The new video also features photos of Reba’s father, Clark, who passed away in 2014.

Remembering Jacqueline

Growing up in Oklahoma, Reba credited her parents with instilling in her a tenacious work ethic. Clark was a rancher and steer-roping champion, while Jacqueline was a schoolteacher.

Reba announced Jacqueline’s passing in a touching Instagram post on March 14, 2020.

“Our Mother, Jacqueline McEntire, made that wonderful cross over into Heaven today,” said Reba, in part. “She had a wonderful, full, healthy life and was absolutely ready to go. The cancer might think it won the battle but we’re giving God all the credit on selecting the time for her to go home to Him. She was ready to see our Daddy, her mama and daddy and all her family and friends.”
