On September 14th, Reba McEntire was touring an old and decrepit building in Atoka, Oklahoma, with her boyfriend and five other people. Apparently, the building was not safe for guests because it collapsed with the country star and friends inside. Luckily, no one was seriously injured. But Reba admitted to The Boot that she has one regret about the whole situation.
Last month Reba McEntire had a movie-like rescue when a historic building nearly crumbled beneath her feet. While the country singer was on the second floor, the stairs from the first to the third story completely collapsed. Reba, Rex Linn, and her friends were stranded with no safe way out.
According to TMZ, no one knows why the group was inside the building. The 100-year-old landmark was in the middle of a renovation. And officials were aware that the stairs were dangerous.
When rescue workers arrived on the scene, there was only one way to save the stranded group—a very tall ladder. So firefighters climbed to the top and led each person down to safer ground one by one.
“While my team and I were in Atoka, [Okla.] yesterday checking out an old historical building, a staircase collapsed,” she wrote on Facebook. “Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. We were safely evacuated from the building thanks to the quick response from the Atoka fire and police departments.”
The situation turned out much better than it could have. An ambulance took one person to the hospital with minor injuries. But no one was seriously hurt. TMZ wrote that Reba was lucky she was only on the second floor at the time. Apparently another group of people was on a higher floor and needed an even trickier rescue.
Reba Said Her Harrowing Resuce Lacked Drama
A few days after the seemingly harrowing rescue, Reba McEntire told Taste of Country Nights that she and Lin weren’t “very frazzled” when they were trapped. She was just relieved that the structure’s stairwell was the only thing to fall. But she’s a bit disappointed that the rescue wasn’t more dramatic.
Reba, the ever lighthearted comedian, wishes she could have made a better exit.
“I was really disappointed they didn’t bring one of those inflatable things that I could just kind of do a swan dive out the window and do a summersault … and then land,” McEntire said.
Reba said that Linn was a true gentleman during the ordeal. And he took care of Reba while they were stuck inside the old building. However, the Fancy singer was a little taken aback when she noticed the rescue made national headlines. And she said that the whole situation was blown out of proportion. But she laughed it away and added “publicity is publicity!”
