Reba McEntire Speaks out on ‘Cancel Culture’

Country Music Superstar Reba McEntire recently got a crash course on the in’s and out’s of today’s “cancel culture.” On her weekly podcast, “Living and learning with Reba McEntire,” she and co-host Melissa Peterman discuss the impact that the movement has on society.

The duo were joined on the podcast by Author Jen Hatmaker and television host of Netflix’s Queer Eye, Karamo Brown.

“I learned so much from this week’s conversation about cancel culture with @jenHatmaker and Karamo,” McEntire tweets. “Join me and @followtheblonde for an all new episode of our @spotify original podcast, Living and Learning with Reba McEntire.”

McEntire starts the podcast by asking her co-host what the term “cancel culture” means to here. Peterman offers up her own definition and the effects of social phenomena.

“When someone gets caught saying something politically incorrect or offensive and people are like ‘we’re done with you,’” Peterman says. “They can find stuff on social media that you said maybe 20 or 10 years ago and they’ll find it. They will call someone out on their words or actions. Then instead of giving them an opportunity to evolve and learn, they just say ‘bye” and ‘your canceled.’”

McEntire responds by saying one of her favorite sayings is, “cut me some slack.”

“I never want to embarrass anyone or hurt anyone’s feelings,” she says. “I certainly don’t mean to be mean…ever.”

Both women agreed that people who make mistakes should be given a second chance and not automatically “canceled.”

Summing up her thoughts on the subject, Reba states, “We need more grace and forgiveness.”

Reba McEntire Hosting CMA Awards

McEntire is readying to host the CMA Awards Show alongside Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker. The singer and songwriter admitted earlier this month to being nervous to stand alongside country music royalty in McEntire.

It will be Reba’s fifth time hosting the event and rumor has it she and Rucker have a competition going to see can who change outfits the most during the show.
