Riley Green Drops Unreleased Tune ‘Song on the Radio’

Storytelling is the thing that makes country music great. Think about It, some of the most memorable and best-loved songs in the genre tell great stories. Marty Robbins’ “El Paso” immediately comes to mind. Additionally, songs like “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and “Tom Dooley” are classics that spin yarns you’ll never forget. Riley Green knows all about weaving stories into his songs. His hit “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” and his cover of “Where Corn Don’t Grow” are great examples of this.

Right now, Riley Green is out on his We Out Here tour. He’s crushing arenas across the country. On November 4th, he played to the Probst Arena at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Alabama. That show was less than 100 miles away from his hometown of Jacksonville. So, you know he had to add a little something special to the show for the hometown crowd.

Riley Green definitely didn’t disappoint. He played a currently unreleased and seemingly untitled song during his set. Luckily, YouTuber Bigworm6917 captured a video of the new track. They called it “Song on the Radio” but Green doesn’t mention the title in the video. Check out the new song below.

In the lyrics, Riley Green seems to be talking about all the memories that he made with his dad. At the same time, he’s talking about the best ways to leave this world. Throughout the song, we see that he and his dad agree that sitting on the lake fishing, being on the 50-yard line at a hometown college football game, or spending time with loved ones would be the best ways to go out.

At the same time, Green builds a narrative of his and his father’s lives. Depending on how the lyrics hit, they’ll either bring a tear to your eye or a smile to your face. They might even do both.

New Music from Riley Green in the Near Future?

Before playing the unreleased tune for his hometown crowd, Riley Green said something that should have all of his fans excited. About the song, Green said, “Just have cut it a couple of weeks ago, we’re gonna put it out, I imagine.” Then, he noted that it was the first time he played it live and asked the audience to wish him luck.

Riley Green released his sole major-label full-length record, Different ‘Round Here in 2019. Since then, he has released a couple of EPs. Could this mean that Riley has another full-length in the works? It might. Then again, he could just drop the new song a single or it might be part of yet another EP. Either way, it’s new music from Riley and we’re here for it.
