Shania, 55, and her marriage to husband Frederic Thiebaud is far from your average love story, but Twain explains it best.
“It’s twisted,” Twain said of the unusual circumstances of their marriage. “But so beautifully twisted.”
The Couple’s Twisted Love Story
Shania Twain was married to producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange for 14 years. They wedded in Dec. 1993 after meeting in June of that same year.
Not only were they husband and wife, but co-writers on several of Shania’s hit songs, including “You’re Still the One,” “Man! I Feel Like a Woman,” “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” and many more.
Marie-Anne Thiebaud was Shania’s best friend and personal assistant, as Shania claims, until devastating news hit both the pop-country star and Frederic, Marie-Anne’s husband.
Lange and Marie-Anne were having an affair. Upon Frederic’s discovery, he told Twain.
Finding Love in the Loss
In 2010, she and Lange divorced, leaving Shania in a dark depression. She turned to Frederic for comfort as he had also experienced heartache through the experience.
While discussing her battle with depression, Shania opened up to AARP The Magazine.
“There were days I didn’t really care if tomorrow came,” she said.
“Sometimes I get overwhelmed coping with things, but experience also teaches you how to manage. When you get older, you have so much experience at falling and getting up,” she said. “You’re not going to stop falling. But you will get better at getting up and brushing yourself off. I believe that. I’ve lived it.”
Shania Twain and Frederic Going 10 Years Strong
However, following their marriage in Puerto Rico in 2011, she and Frederic’s relationship has continued to grow happily and healthily.
The country music star posted sweet photos of her and her hubby at the 16th annual Zurich Film Festival in Switzerland. The photos, taken in Sept. 2020, show the two in a happy embrace.
