Shania Twain is a Friends fan! As someone who was at her popularity peak as the same time of the show, it only makes sense.
On Thursday (May 27), the country hitmaker shared her love for the iconic sitcom. Friends recently released their HBO Max reunion where the six co-stars discussed their time on the show.
In the first tweet, Shania Twain shared a meme of her singing “Okay… so you’re Brad Pitt,” from her “That Don’t Impress Me Much” music video. The image below it featured Pitt as his Friends‘ character Will Colbert from the Season 8 episode, “The One With The Rumor.”
In a follow-up post, Twain shared a clip of her being referenced on the show. Phoebe (played by Lisa Kudrow) walked into their apartment with a pair of new shoes.
“Hey guys look what I just got,” Phoebe said. Rachel (played by Jennifer Aniston) replied, “Oh, wow, I love those! Where did you get them?”
Phoebe explained, “I bought them off eBay. They used to belong to the late Shania Twain.” Rachel clarified, “Phoebe, Shania Twain is still alive.” Phoebe’s response? “Oh, then I overpaid.”
Brad Pitt and Shania Twain’s Relationship
Shania Twain revealed the story behind her iconic hit in 2017 to Billboard. It all began when she had a girlfriend visiting town during Christmastime. The pair were baking cookies when the idea came about.
“I was writing this album and there was a scandal of [Pitt] and Gwyneth [Paltrow] where there was naked photos of him [in Playgirl magazine, which Pitt later successfully sued for publishing the paparazzi photos]. And this was like all the rage. I just thought ‘I don’t know what all the fuss is about.’ I’m like, well that don’t impress me much, I mean what is all the fuss? We see people naked every day. That’s really what I thought. I wasn’t picking on Brad Pitt. But that was just the association in that moment and things we make fusses about and whatever. Of course, it could have been any gorgeous guy.”
Ironically, Pitt went on to take the role of rocket scientist/astronaut Roy McBride in the 2019 film, Ad Astra. Twain sings in the song that astronauts, rocket scientists, nor Pitt impress here. Pitt really doesn’t have a chance!
Believe it or not, the pair haven’t met in person after all of these years.
“It’s sort of a running thing for me now,” Shania Twain said. “I’ve never met him. We have this connection through this giant hit and yet we’ve never met,” Twain said. “I’m a fan. He’s awesome.”
