Shania Twain Duets Lionel Richie For ‘Endless Love’ in 2011
Shania Twain teamed up with Lionel Richie to duet the hit single “Endless Love” together in 2011. During an interview in 2018, Shania shared details about how the duo ended up singing the song together. “Lionel called my managers up and said, ‘I need to speak to her, I want to do this duet with her on my album,” Twain explains. “I just kept saying, ‘No.’ Not to say no for the sake of turning down Lionel Richie, because of course, I’m going to always jump at that chance and I was too afraid. I really believed I couldn’t do it and didn’t want to embarrass myself in front of Lionel Richie and I didn’t want to try and then fail.”
Twain goes on to say that Richie was persistent, and her husband, Frederic Thiebaud, encourages the duet by saying, “Look at least turn him down yourself.” She continues saying, “I said, ‘You’re right, of course I owe him that.’ So I got on the phone with him with the intention to say, ‘No, I can’t do it,’ and he convinced me. He just has such a great heart and it comes out through his messages and his whole psyche and I was convinced.”
Richie wrote “Endless Love” in 1981 and originally recorded as a duet with fellow R&B singer, Diana Ross. Lionel and Twain’s version of the song is recorded in The Bahamas in February 2012 and directed by Paul Boyd. The song was release in March 2012.
