After canceling Morgan Wallen’s performance due to the country singer breaking COVID-19 protocols, Saturday Night Live announced that rocker Jack White will be filling in. SNL creator Lorne Michaels revealed the news on NBC’s Today on Friday morning.

Jack White, formerly of The White Stripes, will be taking the stage along with other potential surprise guests, Deadline reports. This weekend’s performance marks White’s third solo appearance on the show and his fourth overall.

On Wednesday, Wallen, 27, took to social media to react to the news that SNL pulled the plug on his performance. In a 2-minute and 37-second clip, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer apologizes to SNL and his fans.

At the beginning of the video, Wallen explains that he did not test positive for COVID-19 after attending a football game in Tuscaloosa, AL last weekend.

“I’m not positive for COVID, but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted, and they’ve obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams,” he said. “I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy.”

Videos of Wallen Partying Ahead of SNL

Last weekend, a number of clips surfaced on social media showing Wallen partying without wearing a mask. He was also seen on TikTok kissing girls at the party.

Even though SNL canceled the performance, Wallen explains that he understands the network’s decision to do so. “And I take ownership for this,” he said. “I’d like to apologize to SNL. To my fans. To my team. For bringing me these opportunities, and I let them down.”

Following heavy social media backlash, Wallen acknowledges that he plans to work on himself for a while. “And on a more personal note, I think I have some growing up to do,” he said. “You know, I think I’ve lost myself a little bit. I’ve tried to find joy in the wrong places, and I don’t know, it’s left with less joy. So I’m going to try to go work on that.”

After posting the clip, thousands of his fans responded to the video to offer support. A number of country music stars also weighed in including Miranda Lambert.
