The Taylor Swift song “Only the Young,” is featured in a new ad from Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell. The ad encourages young voters to get out and express their right to vote.

This is the first time Swift has lent her voice to a political ad. The ad is set to be distributed over social media in the final days of the 2020 campaign.

Swalwell sent out a tweet on Friday thanking the 30-year-old Grammy Award winner for her voice.

“Thank you @taylorswift13, for voicing what #OnlyTheYoung can do. Let’s run!” Swalwell wrote on Twitter.

The video shows images from protests over the past four years, while also calling attention to a number of issues. Some of those include the COVID-19 pandemic, racial injustice, the climate crisis, and immigration. It also includes audio and video footage of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and running mate Kamala Harris.

Also in the video, young voters and supporters of Biden are organizing and wearing voting gear. Meanwhile, the Taylor Swift track plays in the background, with the lyrics “only the young can run.”

“You’ve marched for four years,” a message in the ad reads. “Now it’s time to run.”

Taylor Swift Endorses Joe Biden for President

Earlier this month, Swift announced on Twitter that she will be voting for Biden in the upcoming November election.

V Magazine shared a preview of a feature article with the singer from their new issue. In it, Swift shared more details on her decision to endorse Biden.

“The change we need most is to elect a president who recognizes that people of color deserve to feel safe and represented, that women deserve the right to choose what happens to their bodies, and that the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be acknowledged and included,” Swift explained in the interview. “Everyone deserves a government that takes global health risks seriously and puts the lives of its people first. The only way we can begin to make things better is to choose leaders who are willing to face these issues and find ways to work through them.”

Further, she continued by saying she believes that Biden and running mate Kamala Harris can get the country back on track.

“America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs,” said Swift.

Biden retweeted Swift’s post and thanked the star for her support.
