This year has definitely been one for surprises, both good and bad. Taylor Swift just surprised and shocked fans everywhere. The singer announced her new album “Evermore” will drop tonight at midnight.

“Evermore” will be Swift’s ninth studio album. And its release comes as a shock to many not expecting another album from the singer this year. Swift had just released her eighth studio album “Folklore” earlier this year in July. That album in itself was also a surprise and delight to fans.

Taylor Swift Celebrates Her Birthday in Style

Apparently, Swift just couldn’t stop writing music. The album will have 17 songs, which includes two bonus tracks. In a series of tweets, the artist detailed how the surprise album came about. She views it as both a celebration of her 31st birthday and also as a gift to fans who have been with her since the beginning.

“Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards, which is why I wanted to surprise you with this now,” Swift wrote. “You’ve all been so caring, supportive and thoughtful on my birthdays and so this time I thought I would give you something!”

“To put it plainly, we just couldn’t stop writing songs,” Swift continued. “To try and put it more poetically, it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music. We chose to wander deeper in.”

While she usually jumps around genres and moods, Swift found something she enjoyed with her last album “Folklore.” She wanted to continue exploring those themes with her newest album.

“I’ve never done this before,” Swift wrote. “In the past I’ve always treated albums as one-off eras and moved onto planning the next one after an album was released. There was something different with folklore. In making it, I felt less like I was departing and more like I was returning.”
