Taylor Swift is finding herself in very good company these days. That company is none other than country music icon Dolly Parton. So, what did the young singer and songwriter do to join such elite company?

Well, Swift has just released a re-recording of her hit song “Love Story.” This new recording, known as “Love Story (Taylor’s Version),” became the No. 1 song on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.

According to an article by EW.com, this is the first time Taylor Swift has had a song debut at the top of the charts. Her other No. 1 songs had to climb to the top spot on the charts.

Even more importantly, Swift’s new recording of “Love Story” is the first time in 31 years that a re-recording of a song reached No. 1 when it came out, according to EW.com. What puts Taylor Swift in company with the legendary Dolly Parton is that the last time a re-recording debuted at No. 1 was Parton’s song “I Will Always Love You.” They are the only two artists to have done this.

According to the article, Dolly Parton originally released “I Will Always Love You” in 1974. She released a new version in 1982 that debuted at No. 1.

Swift has told Billboard that she is “grateful” to the fans who propelled her new version of “Love Story” to No. 1. She also showed appreciation to her fans for being a motivating force behind her efforts to “reclaim” her catalog.

“I couldn’t be happier that it happened now, and in this way,” she also said, according to EW.

As of the week ending on Feb. 18, “Love Story (Taylor’s Version)” had 25,000 paid downloads. It also had 1.1 million radio impressions and was streamed 13.7 million times in the United States.

Taylor Swift Releasing New Recordings of Old Songs

There have been many news reports written about how Taylor Swift lost control over the masters of her early studio recordings. According to EW.com, Scooter Braun took control of the studio sets during 2019.

That year Ithaca Holdings, Braun’s company, purchased Big Machine. Big Machine was once Taylor Swift’s music label. Braun sold Swift’s songs to Shamrock Holdings during 2020.

Luckily for Swift and her fans, she does have permission to record her older material. EW.com is reporting that her new version of her “Fearless” album will come out on April 9. The singer has said she enjoyed recording her old songs again.

“So far, of the ones I’ve recorded, I think it’s been the most fun doing ‘Love Story,'” Swift told Good Morning America during 2020, according to EW. “The older music, my voice was so teenaged and I sometimes, when I hear my older music and my older young teenage voice, it makes me feel like I’m a different singer now. And so, it’s been the most fun to re-record ones that I feel like I could actually, possibly improve upon the song. That’s been a really amazing and fun adventure.”

Her 2021 version of “Fearless” will join the list of other recently-released albums by Taylor Swift. During 2020, she came out with two albums. The first was “Fearless.” The second was “Evermore.”
