Tanner Gomes delighted his “mentor” Kelly Clarkson Monday night as “The Voice” finally turned to live performance shows.

In fact, Gomes’ playful version of a Luke Combs’ “Lovin’ on You” made Clarkson gush. And gush some more. Clarkson usually stays in a perpetual state of gushiness, but this was good stuff.

“I love you so much,” said Clarkson, who got up from her seat to clap along with Gomes.

“You make me so happy! You make me miss honky tonks and hanging out with humans.”

Who is Tanner Gomes And Does He Have a Chance to Win?

Gomes is the “country singer” on Clarkson’s squad. Clark calls him her “cute country boy.” In his bio on The Voice page, Gomes is wearing a black cowboy hat.

Gomes grew up crooning country tunes in Arizona. He moved to California after he graduated from high school. That’s where he learned to play guitar and hone his songwriting skills and karaoke chops.

Gomes now lives in Nashville.

On Monday night, Gomes sang, played guitar and even threw in a couple of dance moves as he performed.

Luke Combs Released The Song This Summer.

Combs, country music’s everyman, released the song in June. At its essence, it’s a love song, all wrapped up in honky tonk.

Clarkson’s team lost a contestant before the start of Monday’s show. Voice host Carson Daly announced that Ryan Gallagher “had to exit the competition.”

Gallagher, in an Instagram post, said his departure had nothing to do with the health of his family. In some of the interviews this season, Gallagher mentioned that his mother was hospitalized with Covid-19.

“Thanks you everybody for your concern for my family,” Gallagher said. “However everybody’s fine, that’s not the cause of what happened tonight on The Voice. I didn’t drop out of the show. Details are still to come, I’ll keep you posted.”

If you’d like to be your own judge and compare and contrast, check out Combs’ song, too.
