Thomas Rhett will literally be singing Eric Church’s name in front of him at the 2021 CMA Awards.
In an interview during rehearsals for the awards show, Rhett spoke about what it’s going to be like performing his title track and hit single, “Country Again“. In the track, he sings, “But last night we cracked some cold beers / And cranked Eric Church to ten / Thought, “Man, it feels good to be country again.”
Rhett explained that he and his band have been performing a stripped-back version of the song on his current tour. He would begin with just him and a guitar and then progress into a full band jam. It was the first time that he was able to perform the song in front of people’s live.
“We’re gonna try to replicate what we did live this summer on the CMA stage which will be super fun,” Rhett said. “I can’t wait to point right at Eric Church when I drop his line in the song. Hopefully, he gives me a thumbs up. I’m just really excited about it.
