While tying for first isn’t always as rewarding as winning it yourself, Thomas Rhett was beyond thrilled to tie with Carrie Underwood for ACM Entertainer of the year. The youthful country singer with Big Machine Records had a lot to say about the historic tie during a virtual press conference.
“When I was standing backstage, and I was listening to Keith call the names, I was just like, there’s no way. And when he said there was a tie, I was like, oh my gosh, this is amazing. First time in ACM history that anyone has ever tied for Entertainer of the Year.” Rhett said. And it’s true. This was the first-ever tie. Rhett noted that it felt fitting in a year as odd as 2020.
He went on to talk about his respect for Carrie Underwood: “And for me to get to tie this award with Carrie Underwood is just mind-blowing. I have worked so hard to even be thought of for the nomination of this category, with our band and our crew and our management and everybody. We’ve just put so many countless hours in rehearsing and making our show as entertaining as it can possibly be. And so, to get to share that with Carrie is absolutely a dream come true.”
No matter who the singer is, getting an award with Carrie Underwood is a big honor; the country singer is one of the hottest names in the industry right now. With multiple #1 albums and songs, Underwood truly is the one to beat (or tie with).
