Thomas Rhett has a lot to celebrate with his 18th No. 1 hit!
Rhett’s latest number one is “Country Again.” It reached the top of both the Billboard Country and Mediabase/Country Aircheck Charts. He previously earned a No. 1 with the same tune on Canadian Country Radio for two consecutive weeks.
Rhett is also celebrating his twelfth consecutive chart-topper. He currently holds the longest active streak for an artist, an IMPRESSIVE feat.
“This song is so special to me, because every line really is autobiographical,” Rhett said in a press release. “But it’s also a song about centering yourself and reconnecting with the things that are truly important to you; which is different for all of us. Being able to share this song with fans each night on the road finally and seeing how it’s resonating with them is something I will never take for granted.”
Rhett told Taste of Country that the song was written during quarantine. It was actually the first song that he wrote for his current album released in April. The song helped him get back into creating music at a time when everyone was feeling uninspired.
“I had that idea in my phone for so long and had no idea how to write it,” he explained.”It just looked weird on paper, you know?” Rhett remembers of the song idea. But, when he linked up with frequent collaborators Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell, they knew just where to take it.”
Thomas Rhett is currently on his Center Point Road tour alongside Cole Swindell, Gabby Barrett, Rhett Akins.
Thomas Rhett and Cole Swindell’s First No. 1 Together
In case you didn’t know, Cole Swindell is not only an artist but a songwriter for other artists. Case in point, Thomas Rhett’s 2013 smash “Get Me Some Of That.” The song skyrocketed to No. 1 on its release.
During a recent episode of The Marty Smith Podcast, Swindell spoke about how the song was created.
“He had been out for a while, [and] he was just taking off. He was already one of my favorite people and a big fan of his music,” Swindell recalled.
Ironically, the song was written by Swindell, Michael Carter, and Rhett Akins, Thomas’ father. Swindell admitted that he had always been a big Rhett Akins fan. The songwriting session that sparked “Get Me Some of That” was the first time that they ever worked together.
“Somehow, he plays it for Thomas [Rhett],” Swindell explained. “Thomas hears it, loves it, puts it on the record. That’s enough. This is life-changing for a writer with not much going on. Finds out it’s going to be a single, ends up being No. 1. The fact that it’s my first as a songwriter, I wrote it with his dad.”
