Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren Akins will be bringing the Christmas spirit this holiday season. The couple announced they will host the annual CMA Country Christmas special.
“We can’t wait for you all to get to watch that and get into the holiday spirit with us,” Rhett told Good Morning America Wednesday (Nov. 11).
Paul Miller will direct the special Meanwhile, Robert Deaton will be the executive producer. Other performers will be announced later. Akins said she’s excited about the impending holiday and has already started decorating.
“I feel like this year, everyone’s needed things to celebrate and look forward to and so it was like the second Halloween was over…I started decorating for Christmas,” Akins said.
Thomas Rhett and His Wife Love Christmas
This Christmas will be the first the couple gets to celebrate with their daughter Lennon Love, the newest addition to the family. Lennon was born in February 2020. Rhett and Akins look forward to celebrating with her and her siblings Willa Gray, who they adopted from Uganda, and Ada James.
Both Rhett and Akins love Christmas. For instance, they have hosted caroling events in Nashville and ugly sweater parties. Rhett has even released two Christmas songs during his career, including “Christmas in the Country.”
“It is really intense. It stays on — it’s not ABC Family anymore — but it stays on Freeform. And I swear it’s nothing but Elf 20 times in December and all the Harry Potter movies and the old-school Rudolph,” Rhett told Taste of Country. “We get the biggest tree — I mean sometimes it hits our ceiling and bends. We’re like the Griswolds.”
He also added, “Lauren loves it, and we always have an ugly Christmas sweater party every year and we invite 100 of our friends over, and it’s always a really good time. We love Christmas!”
The special will air Monday, Nov. 30 at 9/8c on ABC.
