Country music icon Tim McGraw showed some serious emotion as he performed this song tribute at last night’s Country Music Hall of Fame “Big Night at the Museum.”

Last night the Country Music Hall of Fame held one of its biggest fundraisers that includes a star-studded performance. Tim McGraw was one of the performers. He gave his take on Keith Whitley’s C.W. Parsons acoustic guitar while singing “Don’t Close Your Eyes.”

The Country Music Hall of Fame shared the rendition to its Youtube channel. In the caption, it states that this is one of McGraw’s favorite Keith Whitley song.

So, what’s the back story on the historic guitar, according to the Country Music Hall of Fame? Whitley purchased the C.W. Parsons guitar in the state of Kentucky. He exchanged a dollar and a handshake for the now-famous instrument.

Keith Whitley passed away at the early age of 34. His passing still remains an emotional topic for McGraw, who has come to the Museum in the past, after hours, to privately experience Whitley’s exhibit, “Still Rings True: The Enduring Voice of Keith Whitley.”

Furthermore, during the pre-taped performance, McGraw’s sitting in front of the exhibit.

Tim McGraw’s Pulls on the Heartstrings Often

Tim McGraw isn’t afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve. And we’re perfectly ok with that, especially when it includes covers of iconic singers.

When Eddie Van Halen passed away, McGraw took to social media. He shared how Van Halen was the soundtrack to his high school years.

Tim McGraw also continues to share sweet messages to his wife. He and his wife, Faith Hill, are celebrating their 24-wedding anniversary this year. This time McGraw took to Twitter to share his feelings. “The future will surely hold more of all these things,” he tweeted. “It only matters if I’m with you. It only works if I’m with you. My oxygen only exists if you’re by my side. Forever and always living and loving our way through anything @FaithHill.”
