Tim McGraw created the most perfect sort of valentine for his wife, Faith Hill. Using his Instagram account, McGraw posted a series of photos of his relationship through the years with Hill.

He captioned them: “The best girl for me ever, the best mom, the best wife, the best lover. My best friend….
@faithhill #valentinesday.”

Tim McGraw certainly can write a long song, even if it’s a social media post.

We know the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill romance. The two met in 1994. But it wasn’t the right time for either one. But two years later, the two went on tour together. In hindsight, it seems so appropriate that it was called the “Spontaneous Combustion Tour.”

Tim McGraw Brought Over Homemade Goodness to Woo Hill

But McGraw didn’t convince Hill to go out with him by showering her with expensive gifts or flowers. Rather, it was some simple home cooking, using his mother’s recipe.

Tim McGraw, like a good southern gentlemen, brought over a plate of food. He wanted to surprise Hill with some dinner. Years later, Faith Hill told the story during an interview with the Bobby Bones show.

Hill described the precise time when she decided to go out with McGraw.

“He brought me chicken and dumplings. (McGraw) came to my house (unannounced). He knocked on my door, and he had a bowl of homemade chicken dumplings.”

Hill continued: “He said, ‘I made these myself. They’re homemade from scratch.’ He had the bowl covered in aluminum foil, and he had a spoon and a fork on top of the bowl. He said, ‘I didn’t know if you liked to eat your dumplings with a spoon or a fork.’”

McGraw even made corn bread to go with the dumplings. Now, that’s a thoughtful man. There are few women who would turn down a home-cooked meal presented to her by a handsome, generous man. His talent and personality were like a light touch of icing on a perfectly baked cake.

The Two Shared Similar Experiences From Childhood

The two bonded over somewhat similar childhood experiences.

Faith Hill, who grew up in Mississippi, was adopted. She told Billboard magazine she used to dream about being Elvis’ daughter. Her parents – Edna and Ted Perry – also had two biological sons.

McGraw grew up thinking his dad was his mother’s husband. But when he was 11, he was messing around in his mother’s closet. He found his birth certificate and discovered that his birth father was baseball star Tug McGraw. His mother and Tug McGraw had a brief fling when McGraw played minor league baseball in Florida.

McGraw said of Hill: “I knew I had that instability and dysfunction in me, from the way I grew up. And when I met Faith, I knew I needed her in my life–to keep me stable, solid and on track.”

He Proposed in June, She Said Yes

Tim McGraw proposed to Faith Hill in June, 1996. They were backstage, in their dressing rooms, between concert performances. Hill had finished her set. McGraw was about to go on stage. He dropped to his knee and asked. When he finished performing, he returned to his dressing room to find that Hill had drawn hearts on the mirrors.

They were married that October. The two have three beautiful daughters. So it’s the perfect kind of Valentine’s celebration.
