Tim McGraw is the proud father of three daughters. And now, the country star is godfather to a sweet baby boy.
The parents are Emma Roberts and Garrett Hedlund. Two days after Christmas, Roberts gave birth to Rhodes Robert Hedlund. During an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show, Hedlund confirmed that the couple selected McGraw to be their son’s god parent. It was McGraw’s idea.
“He’s the best,” Hedlund said of McGraw. “After around 12 weeks of Emma being pregnant, I called him, and the first thing he said was, ‘I’m the godfather.’ So, how can you argue?
“He’s somebody that I admire and respect, not only as an amazing father and an amazing husband, amazing musician and amazing actor,” Hedlund said. “I’ve known him for a long time.”
Tim McGraw Could Be More Like Grandfather
You could say that McGraw, 53, could be the honorary grandfather. McGraw first met Hedlund when the two were in the movie “Friday Night Lights.” They played father-son, Charlie and Don Billingsley. Don was the star tailback of Odessa Permian High School. Charlie played on the team when he was in school.
Tim McGraw and Hedlund also were in the movie “Country Strong.” So the two know each other well.
Hedlund told Clarkson: “We laugh about it because it’s probably been over 17 years since we did Friday Night Lights together, we played father and son. So I got to first experience him as a father — in that film, somewhat more of an abusive one — but then we did Country Strong together. And we’ve remained such close friends. And, you know, I’ve seen his children, his daughters, from the time they were 1, 3 and 5.”
So, Hedlund picked well for his son.
Mom Emma Roberts has starred on TV on the American Horror Stories anthologies as well as Scream Queens. Her most recent movie was Holidate. She announced her pregnancy last August.
