In light of todays riots on the nation’s Captiol Building, singer/songwriter Tim McGraw is speaking out.
“A terribly sad day for America, a terribly sad day for leadership,” cites McGraw on his official Twitter account. His statement comes after supporters of President Donald Trump breached the U.S. Capitol, with at least one person being shot. Congress, alongside with all other present personnel outside of security and law enforcement, underwent an evacuation.
Tim McGraw Once Wanted a Career in Politics
Upon doing some digging, Tim McGraw fans are likely to discover that the entertainer once was fond of openly discussing his own political aspirations. In numerous interviews, McGraw went on record talking about pursuing a position in government after his children were grown.
Despite today’s political statement, however, this is no longer the case.
Speaking to Owensboro Radio recently in September of 2020, the country icon addresses the topic concisely:
“Absolutely not. Are you kidding …” he responds to the station’s probe on the issue. “I mean look, I have a lot of respect and there are a lot of good people out there who trying to do the right thing and make the world a better place.”
“But do I want to get into that atmosphere,” McGraw concludes. “I think it’s a high calling and I don’t know that I could do it in the world today.”
Despite his own absence from any office, Tim McGraw and wife Faith Hill do keep active in politics behind-the-scenes. According to The Washington Post: “Superstar couple Tim McGraw and Faith Hill recently donated to Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign, according to Federal Election Commission filings.”
