Tim McGraw decided to sit down and record one of George Strait’s most classic hits yesterday (September 9th). The three-time Grammy award-winning singer wanted to pay tribute to the iconic legend via social media by singing Strait’s chart-topper You Look So Good in Love. And lucky for us, he shared it with the world on social media.
We can comfortably say that Tim McGraw absolutely nailed it.
“It’s always a good day to sing some @georgestrait,” he captioned alongside his Instagram video.
While sitting on a barstool and donning his signature modern-western attire, McGraw belted the poetic lyrics with an acoustic guitar. He didn’t need to do anything fancy with the music. McGraw’s impeccable southern voice is enough to carry any song to greatness. Although, George Strait doesn’t exactly need help making his 1983 single memorable. You Look So Good in Love hit the number one spot on the Country Billboards and the Canadian RPM Country Tracks. And the mournful love ballad remained on the charts for an impressive 23 weeks.
By this afternoon, his cover had already gained over 40,000 likes and quite a few pleasing comments.
“Your voice gets better with age. That is because you can see you are a happy individual in life,” wrote one follower. “Thanks for the impromptu song!” commented another.
Tim McGraw’s New Series ‘1883’
It’s a wonder that Tim McGraw manages to find time in his day to grace us with classic country covers on Instagram. Aside from the crooner’s busy musical career and seemingly endless tour dates, he’ll also be starring in a new CBS drama that debuts this winter.
McGraw will be playing a brooding frontierman in Taylor Sheridan’s newest series, 1883. The show will be the prequel to Sheridan’s already popular Yellowstone. Tim will play the part of James Dutton, and his real-life super-star wife, Faith Hill, will be his on-screen wife.
The It’s Your Love duo will “embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land—Montana.” So, in other words, the series will explain just got John Dutton of Yellowstone was able to become the rich and powerful man that he is.
While CBS’s new western won’t be dropping with the normal bunch of fall previews, the premiere is only a few months away. 1883 will debut Paramount+ on Sunday, December 19th.
