Toby Keith Announces New Album ‘Peso In My Pocket’ Set to Release October 2021

Toby Keith is getting back out there.

The “Old School” singer announced that he is releasing an all-new album called “Peso In My Pocket” on October 15th. He shared the news of the release date with his fans on Twitter.

This is the singer-songwriter’s first album in more than five years. His last was “35 MPH Town” back in 2015.

The album is being co-produced by both Kenny Greenberg and Keith himself. It also has the highest Billboard Country Airplay chart debut of his entire career. This comes from the lead single “Old School,” which he released in June. Although it’s been five years, Keith hasn’t let his musical talents gather dust.

For example, he wrote the song “Don’t Let the Old Man In,” which is heavily inspired by popular director and actor, Clint Eastwood. The project is meant to be a resurgence into the world of successful studio albums. It’s a breath of fresh air after a year filled with little music to share.

“My whole musical career, I haven’t been off the road this long,” Keith said. He also called the year 2020, “a reset button I never would have hit,” which surely many of us can agree with.

Toby Keith’s Songwriting

According to a press release, after a year of isolation, Keith did not take on this album all on his own. He got The Warren Brothers, Ryan Hurd, Maren Morris, Jesse Jo Dillon, Brett Tyler, and Sammy Hagar all involved in the songwriting process. There is also a tribute to influential songwriter and performer John Prine on the upcoming album. Keith takes on the Prine and John Mellencamp song “Take a Look At My Heart.”

As a talented songwriter himself, Keith has several tracks that are solo projects. According to the Tennessean, Toby Keith is being honored as a member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He has written or co-written 32 No. 1 hits during his career so far.

As of now, Keith is on his “Country Comes to Town Tour.” Before the tour, he was staying in his house in Mexico where he got a lot of inspiration as well.

“It was like being on the moon. A lot of my friends down there were afraid they wouldn’t be let back in the U.S., so they all went home. I wasn’t on the road and nobody could go anywhere, so I thought, ‘You’ve written a long list of songs by yourself, dumba–. Get up and get busy!’ I went through the ideas I keep on my phone and thought, ‘S–t, I need to write these,’” Keith said in the press release.

Now, those songs have taken shape for the upcoming 10-track album featuring “Growing Up Is A B–ch,” “Thunderbird,” “Peso In My Pocket,” and “Old Me Better.”
