Are you ready for some new Toby Keith? Well, I sincerely hope the answer was a loud and resounding, “Hell yeah!” because that’s what we have for you today. It’s a wild one, too. Three new-school powerhouse writers collaborated on the song a few years ago. Since then, it has just been waiting for the right artist to come along and do it justice. Finally, Keith came along. He and the song go together like Jack and Coke.

Toby Keith was one of the biggest stars of the nineties and early 2000s. The guy has a killer collection of tunes. So, to see someone who is considered old school today picking up something from current stars is kind of cool. Yes, the fact that Toby Keith is now considered older country makes my back hurt, too. It’s okay. This new tune will put some pep back in your step.

2021 ACM Female Artist of the Year, Maren Morris, her hubby Ryan Hurd, and hit songwriter Brett Tyler co-penned the song, according to Taste of Country.

Toby Keith On “Old School”

“When I first heard the demo, it reminded me of Steve Miller,” Toby Keith said of the track. “But it had a little bit of a rap to it.” That rap element reminded Keith of his 2001 chart-topper “I Wanna Talk About Me.” It didn’t take long for the Oklahoma native to decide to cut the song. However, that minor stylistic similarity is where the comparison to “I Wanna Talk About Me,” stops.

“Old School,” looks back at the good old days. It’s lyrics harken back to a time before every town had a mall and a Walmart. At the same time, it longs for the days when people married young and stuck together for the rest of their lives. The small town vibes and the up-tempo instrumentation combined with Toby Keith’s vocals make this one a certified summer banger.

Hopefully, this track is just enough to whet your appetite for more new Toby Keith music. He is set to release a patriotic single called “Happy Birthday, America,” next week. On top of that, he plans to release his first studio album since 2015’s 35 MPH Town this fall.

Toby Keith’s new single “Old School,” is available on all streaming platforms right now. So, head over to Spotify or wherever you stream your music and add it to a playlist. Don’t worry. It’s digital. You won’t wear it out.
