Toby Keith Shares Epic Recap of Labor Day Weekend Shows with His New Song ‘Oklahoma Breakdown’

On Monday (September 6th), country superstar Toby Keith took to his Instagram account to share an epic recap of his Labor Day Weekend shows with his new single ‘Oklahoma Breakdown.’

“Hell of a way to spend the long weekend. Happy Labor Day, y’all,” Toby Keith captioned the post.

Toby Keith is set to perform next at the Headquarters Field in Fort Polk, Lousiana on September 10th. He will also be continuing his tour until October 23rd. He’ll then perform at the iHeart Country Festival in Austin, Texas on October 30th. Keith also has performances lined up in 2022, including the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo, which will take place on February 10th.

Toby Keith Opens Up About His Early Music Career Struggles

In a 2017 interview with The Boot, Toby Keith admitted he actually considered giving up on his music career before he even scored a record deal. “I had a meeting with Jimmy Bowen at Capitol,” Keith recalled. “When I went in there and played, it was on a cassette. And he was just hitting fast forward. He’d play a verse and a chorus. And he’d hit fast forward.”

Toby Keith then said that Bowen approved of his singing but recommended that he needed to go back to the “woodshed” and work on his songwriting. Following the meeting, he went to producer and record label head, Harold Shedd, who signed Keith to Mercury Records.

Keith further explained that after a while he decided to announce he was going to do his own thing and he’s comfortable with the music he’s now making.

“If you look at those first photoshoots, they had us in suits. Finally, I started dressing out of my closet and recording the songs I wanted to record. I put up with it for four years.”

Keith then decided to change producers and went with James Strout who told the country star that he just needed to bring the songs and then he’d cut them. “And so, we cut everything I wanted to record.”
