Toby Keith wants people to “party” with his red solo cup face masks. The country singer joined the trend of decorative face masks in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. He launched his own design on his online store.
The masks feature several red solo cups against a blue background. The masks were inspired by his hit single “Red Solo Cup”. Keith celebrated the launch with an Instagram video set to the lyrics, “Red solo cup. I fill you up. Let’s have a party.”
He also wrote, “Grab your “Red Solo Cup” mask and proceed to party! Get yours in the Toby Keith store now.”
So far, the masks seem to be a hit. Fans loved the design of the mask. Several commented on the Instagram post with a series of heart emojis. One user wrote, “Way to go TK!!! Keep on keeping on!!! God bless ya always!!!” Another commented, “Very cool face mask.”
Toby Keith Recorded ‘Red Solo Cup’ in 2011
Keith recorded the song in 2011. Two sets of brothers, Jim and Brett Beavers and Brad and Brett Warren wrote the song. The humorous song was inspired by red plastic cups, commonly used for liquor and beer at parties.
“It is the stupidest song I ever heard in my life, but it’s so stupid it’s good,” Keith told The Boot. “‘Red Solo Cup’ is like a squirrel loose in a church house. We can play it in an office and then play five other songs, give it an hour, walk out, and you’d hear the receptionist singing it. It’s like nursery rhyme stupid.”
Initially, Keith said he felt concerned radio stations wouldn’t play the song. But he decided to embrace the ridiculous nature of the tune. For the music video, he invited several celebrities to join him including Eric Church, Larry Bird, and Craig Ferguson.
Upon release, the song sold two million and reached the Top 10 on the charts.
