Toby Keith Recorded ‘Red Solo Cup’ in 2011

Keith recorded the song in 2011. Two sets of brothers, Jim and Brett Beavers and Brad and Brett Warren wrote the song. The humorous song was inspired by red plastic cups, commonly used for liquor and beer at parties.

“It is the stupidest song I ever heard in my life, but it’s so stupid it’s good,” Keith told The Boot. “‘Red Solo Cup’ is like a squirrel loose in a church house. We can play it in an office and then play five other songs, give it an hour, walk out, and you’d hear the receptionist singing it. It’s like nursery rhyme stupid.”

Initially, Keith said he felt concerned radio stations wouldn’t play the song. But he decided to embrace the ridiculous nature of the tune. For the music video, he invited several celebrities to join him including Eric Church, Larry Bird, and Craig Ferguson.

Upon release, the song sold two million and reached the Top 10 on the charts.
