Trace Adkins Opens Up About Song ‘Empty Chair’ Dedicated to Military Members and Veterans

On Tuesday (August 24th) Trace Adkins took to his Instagram to share a clip of him discussing his song ‘Empty Chair.’ The song is notably dedicated to the military members and vets. 

In the caption, Trace Adkins writes shares details about the single, which was released on Memorial Day 2021. He also shares in the video, “Here is a song that just spoke to me immediately when I heard it. It was like, ‘Yeah I gotta cut this.’ I tried to put a song on every project that I do that pays tribute to the men and women who serve because I am so appreciative of them and I love them.”

Trace Adkins also says some of the most memorable times in his career looking back at 25 years has been the work that he has done with veterans organizations. “But I just love those folks. And when I have a chance to associate with them and spending time with them I do.” 

“Empty Chair” is going to be on Trace Adkins’ new album, The Way I Wanna Go, which will be out this upcoming Friday (August 27th).

Trace Adkins Reflects on the Struggles He Experience Early in His Career

In an August 2011 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Trace Adkins opened up about how both his acting and music career has progressed throughout the years. “When I started out, I came right out of the box with a platinum album and some No. 1 records. I thought, ‘Man, this is gonna be easy!’ But then you hit that sophomore slump. And then you get to that third album and things are starting to get a lot more challenging.”

Trace Adkins admitted that during that rough patch, he started getting really depressed and self-medicating. “I’d be an alcoholic for years anyway, and it got worse and worse.”

But, the country superstar does state getting sober helps him to have the best, most productive years of his music career. “So I’ve been focused and aware of the incredible opportunity that’s been handed [to] me in this life,” Trace Adkins stated. “To be able to make a living doing something I love to do. All I have to do is try not to screw it up too bad, you know?”

Would Trace Adkins Be on ‘American Idol’ If He Was Just Starting Out?

During his interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Trace Adkins was also asked if he would actually consider trying out for American Idol if he was just starting out in his music career. 

“It’s hard for me to put myself in that place,” Adkins then says. “I did enter a competition in the very beginning – it was the Wild Turkey Battle of Country Bands. We won the local thing in Lafayette, Louisiana.”

Trace Adkins goes on to say that the competition didn’t receive any televised popularity. It wasn’t anywhere near the scale it’s on today either. “I look at these kids and the record details they’re having to sign, everything they’re going to give away just to get a recording contract. I don’t know if I’d do that.”
