For his new single, “Ran Into You,” Mitch Rossell got a vocal assist from one of the best singers in country music, Trisha Yearwood.
Mitch Rossell popped up on a lot of people’s radar in 2016 when Garth Brooks tapped him to serve as the opener during select dates on his World Tour. Mitch was the songwriter behind Garth’s 2017 No. 1 hit, “Ask Me How I Know,” which was featured on the G-man’s 2016 studio album, Gunslinger. The tune marked Rossell’s first major songwriting cut, and Garth’s first No. 1 hit since 2007’s “More Than a Memory.”
Now, Mitch is getting an assist from Garth’s queen, Trisha Yearwood, on his new single, “Ran Into You.”
Mitch & Trisha Run It Back
Penned by Mitch, Tommy Karlas, and Dave Turnbull, “Ran Into You” is the time-tested country standard that involves hitting rock bottom before unexpectedly running into the “one.”
After Mitch gets the desolate duet moving, it gets an uplifting twist from Trisha during the chorus:
“I ran like hell to nowhere fast / From myself, from my past, from my hometown and everyone I ever knew / I ran from God when He got too close / I ran from love and the hearts I broke / And from all the wreckage I left in my rearview / All I ever knew was running, till I ran into you.”
Of course, anything that Trisha’s voice touches turns to gold, but Mitch does more than hold his own while dueting with the Queen.
“I knew ‘Ran Into You’ was special the day we cut it,” says Mitch to Outsider. “The harmony part is so distinctive. When I heard the mix, the first thing that came to my mind was, ‘Trisha Yearwood would really make this special.’
“I don’t feel deserving of having her voice on this song, but I sure as hell am grateful for it.”
The release of “Ran into You” follows the success of Mitch’s recent single, “2020.” The
track quickly went viral on TikTok. Soon after, it reached the No. 1 spot on the iTunes Country chart.
