Country star Trisha Yearwood is celebrating the 30th anniversary of her first No. 1 hit with a serious throwback picture.

On Tuesday, Yearwood took to Instagram to share a photo of herself from 30 years ago, clasping a microphone.

“30 years ago today, this girl got her first #1 record,” Yearwood posted. “Oh, the places she’ll go. Thank you all for taking this journey with me, Katie and Tommy. xo #KatieandTommyForever.”

Trisha Yearwood Celebrates 30 Years Since Her First Hit

Yearwood’s debut single, “She’s in Love with the Boy,” about a couple named Katie and Tommy, shot to the top of the charts in 1991. With it, Yearwood became the first female country artist to debut at the top of country charts.

The song tells the story of two young lovers courting under the watchful glare of the girl’s father. He doesn’t approve of the match… until his wife buts in and sets him straight.

“Her daddy says he ain’t worth a lick/When it comes to brains, he got the short end of the stick/But Katie’s young and man, she just don’t care/She’d follow Tommy anywhere,” Yearwood sings.

The country star has added an acoustic re-rendering of “She’s in Love with the Boy” to the upcoming deluxe edition of her album Every Girl as a nod to the anniversary.

“We had no idea it would make history,” Yearwood told People recently. “It had apparently been around for a few years and had never found the right home. Lucky me!”

Yearwood still recalls the first time she heard the song on the radio. She was driving around Nashville in her used Honda when the song came on. So Yearwood rolled down the car windows and turned the volume all the way up. She was so excited to hear her song, she wanted everyone else to hear it, too.

Yearwood Has Had More No. 1 Hits Since Then

Over the course of 15 albums, Trisha Yearwood would go on to enjoy four more No. 1 hits. She’s also racked up three Grammys, three ACM Awards and three CMA Awards during her career.

Meanwhile, “She’s in Love with the Boy” has become a country classic.

“I don’t think it was until years later that I realized how lucky I had been to have a song like ‘She’s in Love with the Boy’ in my career,” Yearwood told People. “It’s precious to me now because it represents the beginning, and it represents the longevity of a good song and the loyalty of a fan base.”
