On Friday, country music star Trace Adkins released a brand new EP titled Ain’t That Kind of Cowboy under Verge Records Nashville, and to mark the occasion he performed the lead single “Better Off” on NBC’s “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.”
The country icon joined the show from a distance, and performed the new single at Nashville’s legendary Grand Ole Opry. In fact, Adkins has been a Grand Ole Opry member since his induction to the hallowed stage in 2003.
“It was a lot of fun to get back into the studio with Mickey Jack (Cones) and work with Bart (Butler) on this EP, and I couldn’t be prouder of these songs from some of my favorite writers,” shared Adkins about the Ain’t That Kind of Cowboy. “I’m looking forward to what’s to come.”
This is the first album by Adkins under Verge Records Nashville. Bart Butler produced the six-song EP. Additionally, the album’s songwriters are highlighted by Aaron Raitiere, Wynn Varble, TJ Osborne, John Osborne, and Tony Lane.
“There’s a ballad and a couple of mid-tempos,” Adkins explained to Tennessean in August. “It’s a little more sedate, but not unusual for anybody that’s followed my career. I love to do that stuff.”
Trace Adkins’ New Music Videos From ‘Ain’t That Kind of Cowboy’
In March, Adkins’ lead single “Better Off” released with a music video premiere on Viacom/CBS Times Square billboards and on CMT. The single has already racked up more than 8 million streams since its debut.
Subsequently, the country artist’s second single “Mind on Fishin'” released along with a music video starring T. Graham Brown. Additionally, Adkins also released one more single in August as a teaser to today’s Ain’t That Kind of Cowboy album debut.
Adkins released “Just The Way We Do It” as the third single to his newest album. Sounds Like Nashville called the song a “new feel-good, honky-tonkin’ track” and its accompanying music video matched the description. The Cajun-influenced video features a party complete with a crawfish boil, live music, and a lighthearted run-in with the law before the sheriff joins in on the fun. The song and video are appropriate for the Louisiana-native who was born and raised in the state.
“I’m from the northern part of the state,” Adkins told the Tennessean. “Cajun influence really isn’t as prevalent where I’m from. Still, when I started playing music, I was working with a band from Lafayette, Louisiana, and we’d go play festivals down there. I was exposed to a lot of that stuff. I always liked it. It kinda felt like home to me.”
For more than 25 years, Adkins has been one of country music’s biggest stars. The artist has sold more than 11 million albums and topped the charts with over 20 singles. Fans will not want to miss out on his newest EP Ain’t That Kind of Cowboy. In addition, you can purchase autographed copies of the EP and other exclusive new merchandise that are available in the Official Trace Adkins online store.
