Lisa Lee, the Academy of Country Music’s Senior Vice President of creative and content passed away last month. She lost her battle with brain cancer less than a week before the ACM Honors, a show she produced. Many country music stars and members of the Academy saw Lee as a bright light for the genre and its corner of the music industry. However, when she started her road to the ACM position, she was an Arkansas native with a dream. This is something that Ashley McBryde can relate to.
Ashley McBryde’s hit “Girl Goin’ Nowhere,” tells the tale of a small-town girl who has big dreams. Mostly, it details the many detractors she had to deal with while coming up. Like Lee, McBryde is an Arkansas native with a big dream. With this in mind, she took the stage to play a heartfelt rendition of the song in honor of Lisa Lee at the ACM Honors show last month.
“Girl Goin’ Nowhere,” is an emotional song to begin with. However, Ashley McBryde visibly fought back tears while playing it at the ACM Honors. It is evident that she had Lisa Lee on her mind with every note of the song. Watch the touching performance below.

However, as the song ends, the camera zooms out and we can see a photo on the back wall of the stage. Lisa Lee smiles down over her fellow Arkansan. At that point, we see why it was so hard for Ashley McBryde to fight her emotions long enough to finish the performance. It was a truly special moment for everyone in attendance.
Ashley McBryde Cancels Shows
Ashley McBryde loves creating those special moments for her fans. She is currently traveling the country on a headlining tour. However, she had to cancel several dates on the tour after sustaining an injury last week.
Ashley McBryde and her crew were in Missoula, Montana, and decided to go horseback riding. At one point, she lost her footing in one stirrup just as something spooked her horse. The animal began to run and McBryde did her best to stay in the saddle. However, she eventually fell off the horse and struck her head on the ground.
They rushed McBryde to the hospital to get staples in her scalp. However, the laceration was only the beginning. After further testing, doctors discovered that Ashley McBryde had a concussion. In the latest update, McBryde said that she couldn’t walk without assistance. As a result, she had to put her tour on hold. However, she assured her fans that she would be back on the road as soon as she could walk across the stage again.
